MUSEUM TOUR:
Accademia Gallery
Housed in what used to be Europe’s first Art Institute, the Accademia is most famous to be the home of Michelangelo’s David.
Also by Michelangelo are the ‘Prigioni’, or Prisoners, a collection of larger-than-life sculptures in a peculiarly unfinished style, whose interpretation has intrigued art historians for centuries.
Our Accademia tour is naturally focused on Michelangelo’s masterpiece; however, we also catch a glimpse of the other treasures contained in this museum, from the moving portrait of Michelangelo himself done by his most beloved disciple to the gypsum plasters on which generations of students have practiced the art of sculpture.
